Wazoo Coach Declines IU

According to the Indiana Daily Student Tony Bennett was contacted by Indiana’s athletic director Rick Greenspan. There was a discussion and even though Bennett was not offered the job, he said, “I thought about it, but I’m not going to pursue it.” So there goes IU’s number one choice for a coach. Greenspan wants to have a new coach by Thursday, and if he had just contacted Bennett on Saturday, that proves that he is really hustling. Names left on the list are:
Mike Montgomery

Age: 61
Head Coach For: University of Montana (78-86), Standford (86-04), Golden State Warriors (04-06)
College Record: 547-244 (.692)
Pro Record: 68-96 (. 416)
Awards: 2000 Naismith and Basketball Times Coach of the Year, Pac 10 coach of the Year (4 occasions), John R. Wooden Legends of Coaching Lifetime Achievement Award.
Lon Kruger

Age:55
Head Coach For: Pan American (82-86), Kansas State (86-90), Florida (90-96), Illinois (96-00), Atlanta Hawks (00-02), UNLV (04-Present)
College Record: 409-275 (.598)
Pro Record: I am not going to put stats just a fact. It was as head coach of the Hawks that Kruger guaranteed season-ticket holders that the Hawks would make the playoffs or get a $125 refund. The Hawks failed to make the playoffs and Kruger was fired midway through the season.
Achievements: One of five coaches to take four different teams to the NCAA’s.
Farthest he ever went in NCAA’s: Final Four (94)
Other Possibilities
Sean Miller head coach of Xavier. Will IU be willing to pay the 2 million dollar buyout for him? Also I have heard from a realistic source at X that Miller would like to stay.
Scott Skiles former head coach of the Bulls. (I called this one out in an earlier post)
Last Resort? Might as well bring back Mike Davis, at least he didn’t cheat.
